Yoruba Nation Militants Attack Oyo Secretariat, Nigeria

This Go-Pro style footage, taken from a defender’s perspective, shows a portion of an attempt to seize the Secretariat. According to press releases and press reports, there were approximately twenty youths with a mix of shotguns, and machetes/cutlasses. They were overpowered by a combination of police, military, and contract security forces. The arrested gunmen claim to be affiliated with the Democratic Republic of Yoruba.

The motivation for the Yoruba fighters comes from a bid for sovereignty in the form of the Democratic Republic of Yoruba, which, per a spokesperson has been extant since 2022. However, this action was purportedly taken without any official go-ahead from the supposed leaders of Yoruba, who claim that they are the authentic Yoruba Nation movement, and have no idea of or connection with the 20 gunmen. The fighters were largely subdued by means of tear gas.
