Virgin Galactic's space plane conducted its third successful test flight to the edge of space on May 22, 2021, as the company moves to create a successful space tourism industry for paying customers.
The rocket plane named VSS Unity soared to 55 miles over the Earth's surface and then glided back down to New Mexico. Virgin Galactic's test flights are being conducted to become licensed for commercial passenger flights. The company has sold 600 tickets already to those wanting a scenic trip to suborbital space. Most of the tickets have sold for $200,000 to $250,000 a piece. However, that cost is expected to go up once the Unity is licensed and operating commercially.
