We have compiled some of the available witness footage of the early morning Feb. 3, 2022 US special operations raid into Syria's Idlib governorate, which reportedly resulted in the deaths of the Islamic State's top leader and at least a dozen other people.
A White House press release stated: "Last night at my direction, US military forces in the northwest Syria successfully undertook a counterterrorism operation to protect the American people and our Allies, and make the world a safer place. Thanks to the skill and bravery of our Armed Forces, we have taken off the battlefield Abu Ibrahim al Hashimi al Qurayshi - the leader of ISIS. All Americans have returned safely from the operation ... May God protect our troops."
According to reports combined with witness footage, US SOF troops and as many as seven US helicopters (transport and gunships) conducted a raid into Atma, Syria in Idlib province, just two miles from the border of Turkey.
Witnesses claim 13 people were killed, including six children and four women. Gruesome aftermath footage (we intentionally left out of the video) shows badly damaged bodies. One of the corpses matching the description of the alleged terror leader sustained a massive open head wound, an arm nearly torn from the body, and a ripped open torso with disembowelment.
Additional reports, including official US military sources, claim one of the US helicopters sustained a technical malfunction near the objective and had to be destroyed to keep sensitive equipment from falling into the hands of the various Islamist groups infesting the area.
We will be keeping a close eye on open source material and hopefully be able to publish more footage of the counter terror SOF raid in the coming days.
