On July 15th, 2021, a UH-60 Black Hawk crew based out of Illesheim, Germany were forced to make an emergency landing, after their aircraft began having severe malfunctions.
The Black Hawk was reportedly in Bucharest, along with many other crews, in preparation for an upcoming military parade to celebrate the end of Romania's involvement in the Afghanistan campaign. As the wars in Afghanistan have been on going for many decades now, Romania has sent some 32,000 troops to Afghanistan, as a co-op in the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force. In May of 2021, Romania officially pulled its last remaining forces from the country.
As a result of this emergency landing, there have been no reported injuries or deaths. However, during the aircrafts descent into the busy city streets, two large street lights were cut down by the Black Hawks main rotor. Due to the incident, Romanian officials have seized all flying operations during the upcoming parade, and no aircraft will be present.
