Helmet mounted GoPro footage shows a relatively mundane moment become a life-threatening emergency as a Russian high explosive munition impacts a dwelling occupied by Ukrainian troops. One of the Ukrainian soldiers is hit by shrapnel and sustains a penetrating injury to his torso.
The wounded soldier's teammates rapidly expose the wound and cover it with an airtight occlusive dressing chest seal. Although the wound doesn't appear to be severe at first glance, it is unknown how deeply the fragmentation penetrated. It may have struck an internal organ or punctured the diaphragm. Just by penetrating the torso, air can enter the chest cavity and cause the lungs to collapse.
The combat medic likely bought this man a few extra hours, but he urgently needs a higher level of trauma care to get checked out and treated.
