A machine gunner with the 127th Brigade of Ukraine utilizes a murder hole inside of a hardened structure to engage Russian troops somewhere in Bakhmut.
The term murder hole comes from the French word meurtrière. The meurtrière was a defensive position on castle fortifications designed for defenders to shoot out of. In modern warfare, a murder hole is any concealed position or small hole in a building which someone can use to engage the enemy while providing themselves with cover.
