Ukrainian Street Fight Showcases Textbook Rocket Attack

Footage from an unknown location in Ukraine captures the textbook utilization of a rocket propelled grenade system while in the middle of a harsh street fight.

Prior to contrary believe, the textbook answer for firing a rocket does not look like what we've seen in Syria for the past decade. Moving into the open, prepping your rocket under machine gun fire, and then promptly missing your rocket shot while your buddies scream religious chants is not actually the correct answer. This video however, which was recorded by Ukrainian forces during street fighting today does show the textbook answer.

In order to properly employ a rocket, you make have to make yourself a large target. So, for proper employment to be effective, you need to prep the rocket from a place of cover. This place of cover is referred to by the rocketeer as their cold position, and it gives them all the time they need to ensure their rocket is ready for use. Once the rocket is prepared, other infantry troops in the area get the word that you're about to fire a rocket. In response, they pick up their rates of fire to suppress the enemy long enough for you to move to your hot position and execute the battle drill. Once in the hot position, the rocketeer takes aim with the rocket and checks his back blast area only if he moves with an assistant gunner, he then shout rocket and lets the round rip. Once the round rips, he maneuvers back to his cold position, and the rate of fire can decrease back to normal.

It sucks that we're seeing it happen in real time, but it is refreshing to see an actual professional military operating for a change. Also, we didn't add the music. The Ukrainian military appears to have moved into what I call the Out of my Way, phase of producing war content. I expect we'll hear more Ukrainian bops over combat footage coming out of the Ukrainian side of the conflict in the following weeks. It's just the natural progression of warfighters to want to put their combat footage over their favorite tunes. They should grow out of it.
