This helmet cam footage, provided by Ukraine’s 3rd Assault Brigade, shows elements of their force assaulting a village in Avdiivka, which was held by Russian forces. Although there are no casualties shown, the fighting for the village was reportedly intense, per statements by 3AB personnel.
The 3rd Assault Brigade is something of a poster child for Ukrainian assault and shock troops, as consistent coverage and media releases have bolstered their reputation of being highly effective in the field. 3AB is largely comprised of “Azov Battalion” personnel. The Azov Battalion has received negative attention in the past for alleged white supremacist or nationalist leanings, but 3AB’s efficacy has done a lot to offset those connotations.
However, effective or not, 3AB did not have it all their own way in this fight, according to a member’s testimony. The dug-in Russians, whom the Ukrainians are shown pummeling with an RPG and grenades, allegedly countered with drone strikes and grenades of their own, refusing to give up the building they’d occupied.
