This video footage depicts the Ukrainian 63rd Mechanized Brigade, near Torske, in the Donetsk region. The soldiers seen here are using a mortar and SPG-9 to fire on Russian troops downrange. As is becoming increasingly typical, they appear to be using a hovering drone to confirm hits.
First entering Soviet service in 1962, the SPG-9 Kopyo (Spear) is a 62-millimeter recoilless gun. It is normally transported by vehicle due to its weight, and therefore is less popular overall than the RPG. However, we see it here set up in an indirect-fire configuration. In addition to its widespread use across multiple wars, the SPG-9 has the added distinction of being a favorite for maritime use by pirates off the Horn of Africa.
