Soldiers from Ukraine’s 4th Brigade of the National Guard capture three Russian soldiers in a poor state. They are warned not to do anything stupid and then treated by a Ukrainian medic. The Russians complain that they have not been paid for some months. They are likely grateful for a reprieve from the meat grinder, but winding up in Ukrainian activity does not guarantee that they are finished with combat. For Ukrainians, captured Russians are currency to be exchanged for captured Ukrainian personnel. The treatment afforded captured Ukrainian soldiers is in sharp contrast to that shown their Russian counterparts. Ukrainians released from captivity return emaciated and share stories of abuse and torture.
