A Ukrainian Stryker pours fire into a house held by Russian troops somewhere in Kursk. Pounding a building with heavy weapons is sometimes a better way to clear a building than having a team stack outside a building and do an entry. A former CO used to advise never to send a Marine where you can send a bullet, and that philosophy applies in this situation. It is interesting to see the American made Stryker feature so prominently in Ukraine’s incursion into Russia. Thus far they have played a supporting role in the attritional slug match in Ukraine, but the platform is well suited to this type of operation, advancing rapidly along improved roads with few prepared defenses. Wheeled platforms like the Stryker, the MRAP, and the venerable HMMWV are often easier to maintain that tracked platforms, can advance rapidly, and use less fuel than tracks. Once again, it appears that the Ukrainians have found an appropriate use for the tools provided to them.
