A lengthy video of a Ukrainian squad defending a trench from Russian attacks. The action is static and limited to the confines of the trench. The camera operator and his comrade throw a little of everything at their opponents, from small arms to grenades to PKM fire, and while fire can be heard the attackers are difficult to see. The original post claims that the squad is in Novoselivs'ke, Luhansk Oblast, in a trench recently captured from the Russians. The Ukrainian squad is then subjected to relentless counterattacks from Storm-Z units as the Russians attempt to reclaim the position. The original post, who claims to be the unit leader, describes how his squad is gradually whittled down over several days, taking casualties from mortars, artillery and small arms fire, until the few individuals seen in the video are all that remains.
The Russian MOD has ordered commanders to engage in relentless counterattacks to regain lost ground, regardless of casualties. While the effect on Russian units is atrocious, the Ukrainians are experiencing significant casualties, and liberated territory is paid for in blood. Looking to the Soviet forebearers for inspiration, the Russian army has assigned Storm-Z companies to all major commands. Storm-Z companies are reminiscent of Soviet penal units and consist of convicts and soldiers punished for various offensives. These disposable units are the spearhead of Russian counterattacks, and are used to wear down Ukrainian combat power.
