Footage from Ukrainian Special Operations Forces (SSO) shows a nighttime sniping operation in which a pair of Russian soldiers are engaged using a rifle outfitted with a thermal optic. The marksman appears to have hit at least one of his targets.
Since the onset of this war, we have seen few, if any, examples of Russian troops wearing individual night vision goggles, to include their Spetsnaz. To operate at night, infantry troops have to either use the moon's illumination or visible flashlights. Thermal equipped rifles makes engaging operationally blind enemy troops into easy targets.
