Triple Hostage Situation, Suspect Gunned Down by Officers

On April 3rd, 2021 officers from the Moreno Valley Police Station assisted Corona Police Department in locating a suspect engaged in a kidnapping incident and assault with a deadly weapon. The suspect, 40-year-old Juan Estrada was the identified suspect in this case, where earlier that day in Huntington Beach he held a child at gun point.

On that April 3rd evening, dispatch received a call that three women were being held hostage by Estrada in a car. Dispatch also received information that Estrada was holding the victims hostage with a knife and a pistol. Officers arrived at the residence where Estrada had been holding the three females hostage, where officers would spend the next hour attempting to de-escalate the situation.

As one male exits the residence, officers begin having the individual keep his hands in the air, lift his shirt, and spin in circles so they could confirm there were no firearms on the individual. During this distance search, Estrada can be seen sprinting out from the front door of the home with an object in his hand. Officers call out that Estrada has a gun, where they then began firing multiple shots.

Estrada was provided medical assistance on the scene, but was pronounced deceased. As for the object in his hand, it was a water bottle containing a dark liquid. Currently there is still an ongoing investigation. Left in a tough split second decision, officers were forced to protect themselves by using lethal firepower.
