A wild video shows a team of LAPD officers that felt they had an assassinate-on-sight order as the cop in the passenger side of the patrol vehicle began firing out of the window as the squad car was still in motion at a man believed to be carrying a handgun.
The main problem here is that the man wasn't carrying a gun, he was carrying a lighter, and even if he had been in possession of a firearm, that doesn't give the police the green light to murder someone.
The LAPD press release spun this as the suspect being a "known gang member" and made sure to mention unrelated charges he had against him. While the suspect may have been an absolute dirtbag, the police in this situation were definitely not the good guys as they opened fire toward a vehicle filled with unknown occupants toward a residential home that likely had a family within.
From the police press release: On July 21, 2022, at 7:00 p.m., Foothill Division uniformed Gang Enforcement Detail (GED) Officers were conducting patrol in the area of 7800 Radford Avenue, officers observed a known gang member exiting the passenger side of a parked vehicle in the front driveway of a residence in the 7000 Radford Avenue. When officers attempted to conduct a pedestrian stop on the suspect, he appeared to be holding a firearm. An Officer-Involved-Shooting (OIS) occurred, the suspect fled through the side yard of the residence to an unknown location. A perimeter was established, and Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) personnel responded to the scene to assist in apprehending the suspect. After a thorough search it was discovered the suspect had escaped the area.
The suspect was later identified as 37-year-old Ramon Mosqueda, a resident of Los Angeles. No officers, victims, or bystanders were injured during this incident. A black L-Shaped butane lighter was recovered at scene.
