On September 21st, 2021, officers from the Orlando Police Department, patrolling in an un-marked police vehicle, were in the area of South Lakeland Avenue and Jacobs place, when they soon became under fire from three, young individuals. The officers had been responding to the area, regarding a “Crimeline” tip, where they soon observed two teenagers and a young man in his twenties, armed with handguns.
Before officers could make an approach toward the suspects, the three individuals began firing multiple shots at the vehicle. In response, multiple officers began returning fire from inside their vehicle, striking one of the teenagers multiple times. Luckily, no officers were injured during this incident. During the initial incident, only one suspect was apprehended at the scene, as he had sustained multiple gun inflicted injuries to his arm and leg.
Since the shooting, Orlando Police Department has apprehended all three individuals involved. Two of the individuals arrested have been identified as 19-year-old Michael Collins, 22-year-old Jameon Brown, and a 17-year-old whose identity has been withheld. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is now investigating the shooting. It still remains unclear as to why the three individuals opened fire on the un-marked vehicle.
