Members of Task Force Southwest conduct a HIMARS strike on a Taliban weapon cache in support of ANDSF ground operations in 2018. This is what a HIMARS strike looks like.
The Lockheed Martin High Mobility Artillery Rocket System is exactly what it sounds like. It's a mobile platform capable of launching rockets over a very long range. Each vehicle carries a six-pack of rockets, and can be easily maneuvered to anywhere in the battlespace that a vehicle can get to. This allows unit leaders to utilize the versatile weapon system like conventional artillery, but on a more mobile system that doesn't require an entire company-sized element to dig in hardened positions.
This video, which was recorded in the Helmand Province of Afghanistan in 2018, shows a HIMARS being used to destroy a Taliban cache of weapons in the Nad 'Ali District. The strike itself was called in by ANDSF Soldiers, and at the time, it allegedly reduced the Taliban's ability to conduct combat operations in that specific area.
