Dramatic footage recorded by a local resident shows a brazen daylight heist of a cash-in-transit truck in South Africa where explosives were used to gain entry into the armored vehicle.
Footage shows a heist team of approximately ten assailants. They cordon off the block to restrict access to the area by other motorists and emergency response personnel. At least two getaway vehicles are used to deliver the explosives and take away the loot.
The perpetrators do no appear to be in any kind of a rush as they take their time setting up the explosives and removing the target booty. It's possible they were after cash, but CIT trucks also carry other valuables like cell phones and tablets. Occasionally gunfire can be heard, possibly warning shots to ensure people avoid the area.
Once they are satisfied with their bag, they recover to the getaway vehicles and leave the scene. Although sirens of emergency vehicles can be heard nearby, no police arrive throughout the video.
While this footage may be wild in some parts of the world, in South Africa, especially Johannesburg, violent crime and cash truck robberies by organized criminal gangs is a regular occurrence. The fate of the cash truck driver and guards isn't known at this time.
