The Battle for Hue City is one of the most storied fights in the history of the Vietnam War. Marines and Soldiers worked in tandem to retake the city during the 1968 Tet Offensive.
This short video contains clips and scenes that were recorded by combat correspondents and cameramen during the 1968 Battle for Hue City. The battle itself was part of the larger Tet Offensive, which was a deception operation conducted by the Viet Cong and North Vietnamese Army to seize large portions of Southern Vietnam. Hue City itself however was a battle unlike anything the Marine Corps or U.S. Army had ever faced before.
In total, four battalions from the U.S. Army, three battalions of U.S. Marines, and eleven battalions of ARVN troops were used to defeat 10 PAVN and VC battalions that had entrenched themselves inside of Hue City. The battle itself would set the doctrine for how military operations in urban terrain would advance in the future.
