Yesterday's footage of in-fighting between members of the Taliban and the splinter faction of Mullah Mawli Mehdi continues today as footage of a new gunfight between the two groups surfaces.
Last night it was being reported that Mullah Mawli Medhi's forces had pushed the Taliban out of his area of control. Today the Taliban have continued to assault into his area, and firefights have been seen popping up throughout the region.
Should Medhi's forces fail to maintain control of their region, it's likely that it will strengthen the resolve of the Taliban as other groups inside of the organization would be less likely to fracture off. That does not however mean other groups won't eventually break-off from the main organization. In fact, my bet is that in the coming weeks we will see more splinter groups cropping up as the NRF and AFF continue their own campaigns against the now faltering Taliban. It's worth noting that this is exactly what we thought would happen in Afghanistan in August of last year during the botched withdrawal.
Afghanistan has always been a tribal country ruled by individual warlords. None of this should come as a surprise to anyone.
