Remember back in the early 2000's when the Taliban and AQI didn't know that we had FLIR and Night Vision that could see in infrared with pretty much absolute clarity? I remember.
Now, the Taliban are equipped with all of the same equipment as us, courtesy of the failures of senior military leadership and the current political administration. Funny thing about that, I haven't seen a single senior member of military leadership step down from their position, or even take accountability for this. I also haven't seen a single politician step down or take accountability for this either.
In fact, we're now treating the Taliban like they're our premiere SOF fighting force on the ground, and using them to conduct "drone strikes" on empty mud-huts and parked cars in downtown Kabul. (I put drone-strikes in quotations because we have still yet to see evidence of these strikes outside of some pictures of a burnt out vehicle in Kabul.) We're also seeing those same military leaders and politicians pat themselves on the back for a job well done on "One of the largest aviation evacuations in history," as if we all weren't just watching our Afghan allies fall from the landing gear compartment of C17s in a week that culminated in the deaths of 11 U.S. Marines, 1 Navy Corpsman, and a single Soldier from the U.S. Army.
It's okay I guess. We took a bunch of 8th century barbarians who didn't realize we could see in the dark, and made them a near-peer foe overnight. No big deal. There's definitely not a chance that we're now going to have to fight through our own equipment in the near future. None at all. That totally won't happen. In fact, I think that the Generals should just start writing themselves up for Navy Crosses and Silver Stars right now, because there's no way any of this equipment will end up abroad in the hands of Islamic Jihadists who wish to destroy the Western way of life.
