Classic case of doing something extremely dumb and paying the ultimate price. The suspect in the video, later identified as Marvin Payton Jr. can be seen entering the shooting range where an instructional gun safety class is being taught. Payton takes a seat within the class room and begins rummaging through a backpack, looking for a firearm.
Payton is then confronted by the returning student and stopped before he can retrieve the firearm from the backpack. An employee of the shooting range escorted Payton out of the building and began questioning why he was at the range that day.
Reports state Payton mentioned to the employee he wanted to "protect his country" and that's why he was looking to obtain a firearm.
Once police arrived on the scene to arrest Payton for attempted grand larceny, they ordered him to place his hands on the front of the cruiser. Payton now refusing to comply, pulls a screw driver from his pocket and begins attacking the Officers, making contact on one Officer multiple times.
Breaking free from the Officers grasp, Payton began making a run for it as one Officer and three civilians begin firing rounds, striking the suspect multiple times.
Payton was treated on the scene for his wounds but was later pronounced dead.
