On May 8, 2021 officers of the Oklahoma City Police Department were dispatched on reports of the suspect, later identified as 34-year-old Daniel Hobbs staring up into the sky and looked "higher than a kite". The OCPD officers body camera footage shows Hobbs being confronted and simply asked "What are you doing".
Hobbs responded to the officer with some irregular responses saying he was "looking at the clouds" and "I'm trying to get to sky to come down".
The OCPD officer asked Hobbs if he was on any drugs or if he had any mental health issues. Hobbs responded by saying he was not on anything and he was clinically diagnosed with schizophrenia. After a short dispute, the officer asked to search Hobbs, when a struggle then took place.
During the struggle, Hobbs acquired the OCPD officers taser. Moments later, he was shot four times. The body camera footage stops right before the shots took place, but lucky for us a fellow neighbor recorded the incident.
Hobbs was shot four times from point blank range. He was provided medical attention until medical transport arrived. Hobbs was transported to a local medical facility where he would later succumb to his gunshot wounds. There is still an ongoing investigation to determine whether the incident was justified.
