A wanted man was shot by police after he rapidly exited his vehicle armed with a loaded pistol and the incident was captured on multiple angles by responding officers' body worn cameras.
From the report: On October 19, 2021, Temple Sheriff’s Department responded to a suspicious person call at an automative repair shop in Rosemead, California. An informant claimed a customer was requesting discrete, express service, claiming he had a murder warrant.
Police made contact with the suspect, later identified as 25-year-old Adrian Abelar, who gave a false name and lied about his ID. As the police had Abelar exit the vehicle, he got out with a gun in his hand ad a wrestling match ensued. During the scuffle, an officer fired a shot into Abelar.
It's unclear from the footage why the shot needed to be taken or if it was a negligent discharge. The officers quickly detained Abelar without further incident and he was treated for his survivable injuries.
It was later determined that Abelar was not wanted for murder but did have a $145,000 warrant for a felony probation violation. He possibly claimed to have a murder warrant to "impress" his female passenger.
