The South Korean military released an impressive video showing a successful test exercise of their Block-I laser-based anti air weapon in which the system accurately engages multiple aerial targets at different altitudes.
The 20kW fiber laser system is said to be cost efficient in both its construction as well as its use. Unlike conventional anti air systems that require a constant supply of expensive projectile ammunition or missiles, the laser literally emits bursts of light that cost next to nothing and the lifespan is likely measured in hundreds of thousands of hours of use.
