Footage shows US special operations troops failing to launch the RQ-20 Puma in three different instances. The repeated failures are not because these soldiers are poor aviators, but because the platoon-level fixed wing drones like the Puma and RQ-11 Raven are over-priced, underperforming trash that are completely outcompeted by the newer copter drones for fractions of the price.
I personally remember spending more time watching these things crash into outpost walls and conducting QRF missions to recover them after they just randomly fell out of the sky in the mountains of Afghanistan. While they were certainly a necessary step in the evolution of platoon-level aerial recon, they were honestly more trouble than they were worth.
