This footage, provided by a Ranger serving in Afghanistan, shows him putting down suppressive fire and expletives while an A-10 makes gun runs with its iconic cannon, making an impressive addition to the GWOT Symphony Orchestra.
The enemy is fairly close, according to the commentary given by the Ranger cameraman and others. He pins them in place with the machine gun while the A-10 overhead brings merry Hell from above. The A-10’s withering fire arrives before the distinctive report of the GAU-8, putting new emphasis on the term “beaten zone.” In the MK48 gunner’s own words, “God bless the fact that I carry this heavy Fu***ing gun.” Serendipitously, a raindrop lands on the camera from the overcast skies, as the A-10 makes it rain.
