The Saudi military released a video that reportedly shows the interception and destruction of a Houthi "Kamikaze drone" loiter munition over Yemen, which took place in early December 2021.
While the footage is grainy thermal, it is interesting to see how the defensive munition operates as it explodes before reaching the weaponized drone and sends a shower of destructive material at it's target, much like a large shotgun blast.
The exact location of the incident is unknown as Saudi Arabia likes to refute any reports of Houthi actions inside the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, although multiple Houthi drone attacks have targeted domestic Saudi infrastructure in the past.
The Houthis claim their drones are organically developed but are actually Iranian Shahed designs that may or may not be built by the Houthis themselves. In many locations where the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corp's (IIRGC) Quds Force supplements local fighting forces (Israel, Iraq, Yemen, and Syria) their indigenous counterparts use the basic Shahed drone blueprint and claim it as their own.
