San Antonio Officer Shoots Man in McDonalds Parking Lot

Body worn camera footage released by the San Antonio Police Department captures the moment an officer engaged a suspect that had just struck him with a car.

On October 2, 2022, an officer from the San Antonio Police Department was dispatched to a disturbance call at a local McDonalds on 11700 Blanco. Once at the scene of the disturbance, the officer recognized a vehicle that had fled from the officer earlier in the week. Before approaching, the officer requests backup from an additional unit and then approaches on foot.

The officer attempted to make contact by opening the door of the vehicle and attempting to apprehend the suspect after having determined the individual to be a high risk for evading again. The suspect immediately responded by throwing the vehicle into gear and striking the officer with the door of his vehicle. In response to this, the officer employed deadly force against the suspect striking him multiple times and continued to fire as the suspect fled the scene.

The suspect eventually stopped a few blocks down the road where he was apprehended by other police officers. Local area EMS arrived on scene and treated the 17-year-old juvenile, taking him to a nearby medical facility. The status of the teenager is unknown. The 17-year-old female passenger was not injured in the shooting.

The officer involved with this shooting has been terminated from the department after a preliminary review of this incident and the shooting is currently under investigation by the San Antonio Police Department. The teenager has been charged with assaulting a peace officer and evading detention in a vehicle.
