Officers with the Sacramento Police Department were engaged in an officer involved shooting while attempting to serve a warrant to a 42-year-old homeless man in the area of 16th Street and A Street.
After making contact with the suspect to serve a warrant, the man refused to comply with police commands. Shortly into the engagement, the suspect then moved to a cart, picked up a tarp to conceal his hands, and then started to advance on the officers while telling them to put their guns down. The Officers attempted to make space from the suspect until one of the officers eventually made the decision to discharge his duty weapon.
The unnamed suspect then lead the officers on a short foot-pursuit before eventually surrendering. Officers immediately began providing first-aid to the suspect who was transferred to a nearby medical facility where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. After being cleared by medical professionals, the man was booked for his felony warrant and resisting arrest. No officers were injured during the incident. This investigation remains active, and no weapons were located in the immediate area of the suspect.
