Russians and Dagestani Militants Engage in Close Range Gunfight (1999)

Dagestani militants record on a handheld camera system a massive close range gunfight between themselves and Russian Soldiers during the 1999 Dagestan War.

If you're not a student of history, I wouldn't blame you for not knowing about the 1999 Dagestan War. It was a short lived conflict that occurred when a group known as the Islamic International Peacekeeping Brigade led by Shamil Basayev, Ibn al-Khattab, Ramzan Akhmadov and Arbi Barayev, decided to invade the Russian Republic of Dagestan. The conflict itself lasted just one month, and was one of the main precursors for the second Chechen war.

This footage was recorded in 1999, which for many of us doesn't seem like all that long ago. While you're watching this, I want you to think about how much warfare has changed in just the 23 years since this piece of combat footage was recorded.
