Footage has been circling on social media showing a Russian strike using an undetermined munition which rapidly descended to the ground using a parachute and created a haunting blast sound. Several weapons-wise users identified the warhead as most likely being a 300mm 9M55K1 rocket fired from a Russian Tornado-S MRLS. The parachute allows the munition to defeat the physical limitations of trajectory (obstacles and terrain) by popping halting the forward flight and dropping the rocket straight down on its target. The canopy itself is relatively small which allows the rocket to fall at high speed.
