Russian Prototype Aircraft Catches Fire And Crashes During Test Flight, 3 Dead

New footage surfacing captured the moment the Russian Ilyushin Il-112V, a new military transport aircraft caught fire and crashed during its test flight outside Moscow on August 17, 2021.

Among the flight crew was Test pilot, "Hero of Russia" Nikolai Kuimov, 1st class test pilot Dmitry Komarov and 1st class test flight engineer Nikolai Khludeev. Reports have indicated that during the crews landing approach, the planes entire right side became engulfed in flames. With severe damage to the wing, the aircraft lost control, where it then flipped over moments before hitting the ground.

Whether this was an engine failure, or an electrical fire caused by the landing gear components has not yet been determined. As of this morning, Rostec is setting up a commission to investigate the accident of the experienced Il-112V.
