Russian Ka-52 Alligator Shot Down By PZR Piorun MANPADS

Footage reportedly shows Ukrainian forces shooting down a Russian Ka-52 Alligator attack helicopter with a Polish PZR Piorun man portable air defense system (MANPADS) in eastern Ukraine.

The Piorun, or "thunderbolt" is a Polish shoulder-fired surface to air missile designed to down low-flying aircraft including planes, helicopters, and drones. The Piorun is said to be 30% more effective at hitting and killing its target compared to the Stinger and Igla. The Ukrainians likely received the weapon system relatively recently as a result of Russian aggression.
