The Russian FSB claim to have carried out an interdiction operation in which a Ukrainian intelligence operative, posing as an old disabled man, placed an explosive under the car of a local pro-Russian politician in the Zaporizhzhia region.
The plans for the Ukrainian operation were somehow intercepted by Russian intelligence, possibly through exploited communications transmissions or human informants. The Russians knew the time and location of the attempt and were waiting.
Further reports indicate the man was shot dead by FSB operatives attempting to make an arrest. A search of the suspect's home revealed a Makarov pistol and bomb making material.
