Reno Officer Dragged 100-Yards By Suspect In Vehicle Refusing To Comply

The Reno Police Department released body camera footage from a critical incident on November 13th, 2021, showing the moments a wanted 'prowling' suspect fled a traffic stop while dragging a police officer, which resulted in an officer involved shooting.

At approximately 8 p.m., officers received a 9-1-1 call from a homeowner stating he observed a man through his Ring camera system multiple times throughout the day 'prowling' around his home, asking questions about a neighboring little girl. Officers were dispatched to the residence; however the unidentified man fled the area in his vehicle. The 9-1-1 caller pursued the man in his vehicle and provided updates to dispatch as the suspect attempted to avoid police confrontation.

Two officers and a Sergeant successfully caught up to the two vehicles and conducted a traffic stop on the suspicious male. As it appears in the three perspectives of body camera footage, the suspicious man refused to comply with officers during the traffic stop, when he refused to roll his window down or provide self-identification. Officers provided an ample amount of warnings for the male subject to roll his window down, when the Sergeant then attempted to break the window.

In a desperate attempt to avoid police custody, the suspect accelerated the vehicle while simultaneously dragging the officer along with him. The officer continued providing verbal commands to the male suspect, to stop the vehicle or he was going to get shot. As it appears, the man stopped the car, and the Sergeant became free from the vehicle. While attempting to gain entry to the vehicle a second time, the male suspect accelerated the vehicle yet again, forcing an officer involved shooting.

Shortly after the incident, dispatch received a call from an uninvolved party stating a wounded man showed up in a nearby parking lot. The officers involved in the traffic stop arrived in the area, where the man was detained and furthermore provided medical aid. The man, who has still been unidentified was transported to an area hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injures.

Luckily, no officers or bystanders were injured during this incident.
