A little girl in a Ukrainian refugee camp located in Romania gets a small birthday surprise when the camp volunteers all sing her happy birthday.

I know, you guys didn't come here to feel your own feelings today. That said, I'm going to force feed you this video of a little girl in a refugee camp in Romania getting happy birthday sung to her anyways. Here's the thing about war and conflict. Every war around the world has a lot of by-products. One of the largest by-products is the fleeing of civilians from contested areas who have suddenly found themselves homeless in a strange land.

I don't care if you're pro-Russia or pro-Ukraine in this conflict. One thing we should all be able to agree on is that little girls and little boys in refugee camps scared of what's going to happen tomorrow is something that needs to end. I know we have a lot of new viewers as well, so let me make this point abundantly clear. For the last twenty years there have been refugees in refugee camps not unlike this one trying to keep their spirits up as they battle to survive. Most recently before this there was a humanitarian crisis in Syria which saw thousands of civilians fleeing to strange lands, and before that we had the Yazidi people in camps fleeing the terror of the Islamic State.

Allow me to be abundantly clear. This situation isn't any different than the situation we saw in those other conflicts. The only true difference between this little girl's situation and the tens of thousands of Yazidis is that this little girl fled a conflict between two first world military super powers in Europe. Her story will be on the front-page of every news paper in the world tomorrow. The Yazidis were a non-story for everyone outside of Iraq.

Getting off of my soap box for a minute, I'd like to add a bit of correct context to this story. There are versions of this video floating around the internet saying that the girl was unaccompanied, and that's not the case. Her mother was actually with her in the refugee camp. The volunteers came regardless, because no child should spend their birthday freezing in a tent far away from home.
