Rebels in Papua Ambush Indonesian Police

This GoPro-style footage shows the perspective of two Papuan rebels as they ambush an Indonesian police vehicle with what appears to be an M-16. One of the police officers in the back of the truck is hit and falls, but it is unknown whether he survived the attack.

The Indonesian province of Papua comprises the Western half of New Guinea and is distinct from the country of New Guinea, which has been a sovereign state since 1975. Papuan rebels, two of which are present in this video, campaign for the Papua region to be federated with New Guinea, or to be its own state, citing the Indonesian regime as an oppressive government. They claim only a small portion of the population was allowed to vote to be controlled by Indonesia in 1969, and many of those were held at "gunpoint." In the maelstrom of conflicts and soveregnity disputes across the globe, this one is often overlooked.
