The US troops that sustained injuries during the Jan. 8, 2020 Iranian cruise missile attack against al Assad airbase in Iraq will be awarded Purple Hearts, according to Military Times.
The report indicated that over a hundred of the thousand US troops stationed at the base were diagnosed with traumatic brain injuries, although the exact number medals to be awarded isn't clear.
The Iranian government launched the missiles in response to the US assassination of Quds Force commander Qassem Soleimani, who was planning and facilitating proxy Shia militia attacks against Western interests in Iraq, Syria, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, as well as in international waters.
Aftermath photos of the Iranian missile attack showed great accuracy. However, the Iranian military was so afraid of America's response that they unintentionally shot down a Ukrainian passenger jet, killing almost 200 people.
The following unconfirmed video clips reportedly show both the launch and impact of the Iranian missiles against the Iraqi base housing US troops.
