An incident which occurred on August 3rd, 2019, shows an officer from the La Crosse Police Department, WI, engage in a close quarter shootout with a wanted felon. Lucky for this officer, his ballistic vest stopped the round, further mitigating a lethal encounter.
At 3:05 P.M., officers were dispatched to 317 9th St. South for a domestic disturbance complaint. Prior to arriving, La Crosse officers were informed that the male suspect, who was identified as Allen C. Kruk, had a felony warrant and was currently at the residence, threatening and harassing his ex-wife.
Upon arriving at the scene, one officer approached the rear of the home, where Kruk was attempting to gain entry. Seemingly confused, Kruk began stepping away from the approaching officer and drew a firearm. In response, the officer drew his firearm and the two began exchanging shots.
Kruk managed to get a few shots off, one of which struck the officer directly in the chest, but was fortunately stopped by his ballistic vest. After returning fire, the officer struck Kruk multiple times, neutralizing him until additional responding officers arrived. Mr. Kruk was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for his gun shot wounds. The responding officer was also transported for non-life threatening injuries.
