When a deputy from the Jacksonville's Sheriff's Office initiated contact with a vehicle matching the description of a vehicle reported in an incident involving a shooting earlier in the day, he was immediately met with gunfire from the vehicle. After initiating the deputy in a gunfight, the occupant then got back inside of the vehicle and lead deputies on a high speed pursuit that ended when the suspect vehicle crashed into another car and was forced off the road through a fence where it came to a stop on its side.
Deputies immediately approached the vehicle with their weapons drawn. When no response was provided by the suspects inside of the vehicle, the Police K9 Huk was deployed. One of the suspects inside of the overturned vehicle then shot at deputies, injuring Huk in the process. As Huk was being cleared of the vehicle, Deputies engaged the suspects inside of the vehicle to stop the threat.
Two of the three suspects inside of the vehicle were killed in the initial exchange of gunfire with Jacksonville deputies. The third was provided life-saving-aid at the scene of the incident until paramedics arrived on scene to transport him to a nearby medical facility. Police K9 Huk was airlifted to a nearby medical facility as well where he underwent surgery and is expected to make a full recovery.
