Bystander footage capturing the moments Orange County Sheriff's shot and killed a suspicious homeless man jaywalking was recently justified by the Orange County District Attorney's office.
On September 23rd, 2020, two deputies, Deputy Jonathan Israel and his partner who were both homeless liaison officers, observed 42-year-old Kurt Andreas Reinhold jaywalking at an intersection in the 2200 block of South El Camino Real. As the jaywalk occurred, both deputies exited their vehicle and immediately began communicating with Reinhold.
After a short confrontation, Reinhold became aggressive with deputies, where a physical altercation began. During the attempted detainment of Reinhold; Reinhold reached for one deputies firearm, provoking the secondary deputy to discharge his weapon, fatally wounding Reinhold.
Nearly 17-months later, the OCDA determined both deputies involved were justified in their actions taken against Reinhold.
