A fatal officer involved shooting captured by multiple officer body worn camera's, shows the moments Nashville Metro Police officers located an abandoned vehicle parked in a roadway, when suddenly they became under fire.
On December 16th, 2021, multiple 9-1-1 callers reported an abandoned vehicle, with doors ajar, located on Old Hickory Blvd, Madison, TN. Prior to officers arriving, a caller informed dispatch that he heard gunfire coming from a wood line nearby the abandoned car. Shortly after, officers arrived in the area and began investigating the vehicle but were suddenly startled after the owner of the vehicle began firing his weapon and shouting toward officers.
For 30-minutes, multiple officers attempted to de-escalate the situation. As it appears in the dashcam and body camera footage, officers successfully convinced the 39-year-old male to exit the wood line. For an extended period of time, officers went back and forth commanding the male subject to drop the weapon, but he still refused. Suddenly, the man was observed pointing and firing two rounds toward the officers. In response, one officer fired a single round from a shotgun, striking the man and neutralizing him.
The man was provided on site medical aid; however he later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The suspects identity has not been released but was reportedly issued an arrest warrant on December 15th for tampering with his electronic monitoring device.
