The Gillette Police Department released body-worn camera footage of a Nov. 13, 2020 officer-involved shooting that occurred in rural Wyoming.
Reports from the incident suggest that the suspect, Cody William Amman, 31, was thought to be involved in a shooting only minutes earlier. As soon as Officer Sanders pulls the vehicle over, Amman steps out of the car, pointing a pistol at the officer.
Officer Sanders gives Amman a last chance by commanding him to get back in the vehicle, to which Amman responds by firing multiple rounds at the cop. Sanders fires back and Amman sprints for an elevated position off the highway and again fires back at Sanders. Sanders delivers two well-placed shots into Amman, who can then be seen lying motionless.
Sanders and other responding officers attempt life-saving procedures on Amman, but his wounds are too severe and he dies. The whole incident lasted less than 15-seconds, demonstrating the split-second life-or-death decision making that officers are forced to make in situations like these.
