Shortly before 7 a.m. on May 19, 2021, Officers responded to a report of a Fort Lauderdale home being burglarized while people were inside. The suspects fled the scene in a getaway car before officers arrived on the scene, but were given a good enough description to later locate the suspects.
After the initial incident, officers located the suspects and attempted a traffic stop. The suspects refused to pull the vehicle over, which then a high speed car chase ensued. Reports have stated that during the high speed chase, the suspects hit an bicyclist and kept driving.
The driver, speeding and driving erratically through residential areas, ultimately led police onto Interstate 95. When changing lanes at an incredibly high speed, the suspects vehicle was clipped in the rear right side causing the driver to lose control. As the vehicle began spinning, it slid directly into a guardrail, sending the SUV up and over onto its top.
One suspect can be seen crawling out of the back window of the SUV in an attempt to flee, but is slammed into by the police cruiser.
The cyclist and other victims involved were all taken to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, as well as the five suspects whom stole the vehicle.
