A critical incident released on October 29th, 2021, shows an intense, near fatal confrontation an officer from the Riverside Police Department engaged in earlier this year. From a foot chase, to a physical altercation, ultimately concluded after an officer was forced to utilize lethal force against a convicted felon.
On Monday, April 26, 2021 at approximately 3:29 a.m., Riverside Police Officers responded to a gas station in the 2600 block of Alessandro Boulevard regarding a call for service involving a subject who was bothering customers and refusing to leave. When a patrol officer arrived on scene, he located the described male suspect, later identified as Edgar Bejarano, 28-years-old of Moreno Valley who is currently on parole for possession of stolen property.
As the officer attempted to contact Mr. Bejarano, he ran away to a white Ford F-150. Mr. Bejarano fought with the officer as he was trying to flee in the truck when an officer involved shooting occurred. Mr. Bejarano was not struck by gunfire or injured, and was taken into custody once assisting officers arrived. The white Ford F-150 he attempted to flee in was reported stolen 3 days ago from Moreno Valley.
The officer sustained minor injuries and was later transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.
Mr. Bejarano was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center for assault with a deadly weapon upon a police officer, resisting arrest using violence, possession of a stolen vehicle, suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance, and violation of parole. He is currently being held without bail.
