On February 4, 2021 New Mexico State Police began in a high speed vehicle chase after suspect Omar Cueva brutally murdered Officer Darian Jarrott.
Cueva was being investigated by Homeland Security for possible drug trafficking between The United States and Mexico. During a traffic stop, Officer Jarrott asked Cueva if there were any firearms in the vehicle. Cueva admitted to Officer Jarrott that there was indeed a firearm in his truck.
After a brief discussion about the weapon, Cueva agreed to remove the weapon for Officer Jarrott's safety. As Cueva exited the vehicle, he pulled out an AR-15 and began firing at Officer Jarrott. Cueva wounded Officer Jarrott multiple times dropping him to the ground. Moments later Cueva presses the barrel directly to the back of Officer Jarrot's head, fatally wounding him.
The video provided shows the after-math of the Officers initial encounter, as they aggressively pit Cueva while he was attempting to flee on highway I-10. Once Cueva was stopped, he exited the vehicle and began firing at the pursuing Officers, wounding the Officer in the footage.
Although he had just been wounded, the Officer gets back in the fight immediately. As the Officer moves to the back end of the truck, he unloads his entire magazine into Cueva, fatally injuring him.
