Body Worn Camera footage from three police officers captures the moment 33-year-old Lucas Antonio Salas attempts to quick draw a handgun on them.
The video above was recorded on the body worn camera systems of three Police Officers from the Thornton and Northglenn Police Departments. It captures the tense moments when the three officers were pursuing 33-year-old Lucas Antonio Salas on a Thornton golf course after a short high speed pursuit that ended after Salas crashed his 2003 Nissan into a ditch.
As the officers attempt to get Salas to surrender, they are forced to pursue him across a small stream on the golf course. As soon as they are within range, a less-lethal Taser is deployed. In that same instant, Salas produces a pistol from his waistband and attempts to engage the officers. The other two officers, who were maintaining a lethal option, were then forced to employ lethal force in order to safeguard their own lives.
No officers were injured in this officer involved shooting. Salas was transported to a nearby medical facility where he was pronounced deceased. After a lengthy investigation, it was determined that Salas fired first, and that the officer's lethal force response was warranted. Neither of the two officers who used lethal force were charged with any wrong-doing.
