Footage circulating social media shows a Ukrainian proclaim "Slava Ukraini" before being executed by Russians.
I will not be writing a differentiation between Russian War Crimes or Ukrainian War Crimes on this video, I'm only going to say that this is the careful balance I've spoken about before with covering War. While we absolutely want the world to see war, and what happens no matter when or where the war is, it's also important that we continuously work to not 'normalize' ourselves and others to it. There is an unedited version of this video on our Telegram, but we are posting a blurred version here on the website to ensure that its seen, digested, and discussed.
While we aren't in the habit of just showing gore and blood solely for the sake of shock value, we ARE in the habit of ensuring that as much footage of War's reality is documented as our small team can process. This war crime (Geneva Convention relative to the Treatment of Prisoners of War, Part II, Article 13) is now documented to have taken place in Ukraine sometime between January and March, 2023. A POW is defined in Article 4 of the aforementioned convention.
