(NSFW) Three Wounded In Brooklyn Shooting, NYPD Neutralize Armed Assailant

On July 8th, 2021, NYPD officers assigned to patrol in the 83rd Precinct, responded to 1195A Halsey Street, in Brooklyn, where a reported shooting had occurred. Arriving on the scene, the officers were met by several men, some of which were wounded, outside the Boardwalk Wine and Spirits.

Upon exiting their cruiser, the group of men pointed in the direction of Wilson Avenue, where the suspect had just fled on foot. As officers began pursuing in the direction of the suspect, they stumbled up the armed man, crouched behind a grey sedan car.

While officers began shouting commands at the suspect, telling him to drop his firearm, he refused to comply. After a few moments of commanding the suspect, the armed man raised his weapon and pointed it at the officers, forcing an officer involved shooting. The suspect, was later identified as 53-year-old Steven Leconte. During the detainment process, officers located a Glock 19, chambered in 9mm on Leconte's person. Leconte was later taken to Wyckoff Heights Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The additional men injured by Leconte's gunfire were a 39-year-old male, wounded in the leg, who was transported to Brookdale Hospital for treatment, a 27-year-old male wounded in the abdomen, who was transported to Kings County Hospital, and 40-year-old male wounded in the torso, forearm, left flank, knee, and back, who was also transported to Kings County Hospital for medical treatment. All three victims were transported for non-life threatening injuries.
